Roger Federer: 'Monte Carlo is probably too early on my schedule'

In a recent interview, Roger Federer spoke about his next plans. The Swiss player is still uncertain about what clay-court tournament he should pick prior to the French Open. "I do not want to play much more, I'd rather train more and prepare well for the grass-court season, I do not definitely want to overdo it. What tournament should we look at? Monte Carlo is probably too early", said Federer, who is likely to play Madrid and/or Rome.

On the Laver Cup taking place in Geneva in September, Federer added: "The idea was to bring the Laver Cup all around the world. We already exceeded our expectations by far. Prague was a full success. Chicago had other options and now it's Geneva's turn, something very special for me. I hope Swiss fans will have a big joy. I will give everything and I am looking forward to seeing the tennis party coming to Geneva. I have been knowing it since the Davis Cup; the Palexpo is a great arena. Tickets sale has already been going well apparently."

Bjorn Borg said: "When Roger plays, I imagine he knows what he has to do. With others, I mostly try to send positive energy and create a team spirit."

Federer feels a special connection with Geneva: "From Lausanne, where I was playing and studying as a kid, I always loved to come to Geneva. For me, Geneva is the Davis Cup host in Switzerland. I was 11 years old in 1992 and I remember the 18,000 people at the Palexpo for Switzerland-Brazil. I dreamed to have a similar day by myself."
