Alex de Minaur and Andreas Seppi withdraw from Miami Masters
In the last 14 months, Alex de Minaur has made stellar progress through the rankings, advancing into three ATP finals and lifting the maiden ATP crown in Sydney in January. After helping his country to beat Bosnia and Herzegovina in Adelaide, Alex was forced to withdraw from New York due to illness and he lost in the quarter-final of Acapulco to Alexander Zverev, winning just ten points in ten return games. The first Masters 1000 event of the season at Indian Wells proved to be a quick stop for the young Aussie, bowing out in the opening match to a qualifier Marcos Giron in three sets and playing well below his best.
Something was wrong with the youngster and he has decided to withdraw from Miami Masters to recover and prepare for the season on clay. Alex made a debut in Miami a year ago as a qualifier, losing to Yoshihito Nishioka in the opening round and missing a chance now to hit Hard Rock Stadium for the first time, with Miami Masters finding its new home at the state of art facility. The organizers of one of the most significant tennis events in the world have decided to relocate the tournament from Key Biscayne to Hard Rock Stadium, the home of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins, improving players' comfort and offering the most for both competitors and fans.
Besides de Minaur, the Italian veteran Andreas Seppi is also out of Miami, skipping the second Masters 1000 event of the season for the third time in the last five years. Andreas claimed just eight wins in Miami overall, reaching the fourth round in 2013 when Andy Murray beat him in straight sets.
