Pedro Sousa receives first Estoril wildcard

World No. 105 Pedro Sousa has received the first wildcard for the Estoril Open

The 30-year-old is set to make his fourth Estoril main draw appearance.

Sousa failed to make it past the Estoril qualifying event in 2015 but debuted at the tournament a year later after receiving a wildcard.

The Portuguese didn't have a great Estoril debut, having lost in the first round to Argentine Leonardo Mayer in straight sets.

In the last two Estoril appearances, the 30-year-old made back-to-back round-of-16 at the tournament.

In 2017, Sousa's Estoril ended with a loss suffered to eventual runner-up Gilles Miller.

Last year, the 30-year-old exited the tournament after losing to fellow compatriot Joao Sousa.

World No. 105 Sousa blew a great chance to make the quarter-final, having been edged out by world No. 41 Sousa 4-6 7-6 (1) 7-5.

The 30-year-old blew two match points in the second set and also failed to serve out for the match in the 10th game of the third set.

World No. 105 Sousa led 5-3 in both the second and third set but failed to capitalize on his lead.

After surviving a tough round-of-16 clash, world No. 41 Sousa went on to win the Estoril title.

It remains to be seen can Sousa make it a step further this year and achieve his career-best result at the Estoril event.

The Estoril Open has been scheduled to be held from April 29 - May 05.
