The dominance of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal has ended: Boris Becker

In an interview to Tennis Magazin, the six-time Major winner Boris Becker commented on the future of men's tennis. "I think there is a change going on," said Becker. "It's about leaving the Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal era. Novak is a few years younger. Murray is not there anymore due to his injury. Such an era could never happen anymore. Federer and Nadal are two unbelievable masterclass players in men's tennis and there will be a void because no one can replace them. I am happy Novak cameback. He is a very important leader to lead the sport for the next two or three years as the best guy. That makes it easier for the younger players. For Zverev, Khachanov, Tsitsipas, De Minaur, just to mention someone. They can be happy that there will be another Djokovic or Murray. This is what tennis needs."

On the older players having successes after turning 30, Becker said: "It's about good medical possibilities, good knowledge of science. How to train better, how to eat better, how to recover better. Tennis is also a mental sport and it's nicer if you are older and consequently smarter. You win many matches not just physically but also in terms of tactics and mental strength. You see it more as you get older than when you are young. John Isner is a good example of it."

Becker feels satisfied with the state of German tennis: "The successes of the German players in the major tournaments speak (for themselves). Obviously, players are on-court alone, but I think we (have) created a big environment. We can really do everything well together. That was not the case in the past."
