"There's always a chance": Karolina Pliskova on remaining positive

Karolina Pliskova has booked her place in the Miami Open semi-finals with a straight set win against compatriot Marketa Vondrousova. Pliskova sealed the win in one hour and 20 minutes to set up a meeting with Simona Halep. “I practised with Simona before the tournament and lost 0-6, so it can only get better,” Pliskova told media following the match.

Halep leads their head to head 7-2 and it’s a must win match for current World No. 3 in order to reclaim the top ranking. "It's going to be, I think, a good match,” Pliskova said. “With her, the quality of the tennis is always good and the intensity is always good. I think she was also playing some tough matches, so I think there's going to be a chance. My level is improving, my game is improving, so I think it's going to be a good match, if nothing more," Pliskova told wtatennis.com. "I think for sure, there's going to be a chance to win. Every time we play, I feel like there is a chance. Of course, the head-to-head is not perfect for me, but there is always a chance." Pliskova had battled through two consecutive three set matches earlier in the draw and found herself trailing her lower ranked country woman 0-3 in the second set. "I was a little bit off for a couple of games, and she also played some good shots and served well. I won a tight first set, and the games were pretty close. Overall, I think the match was maybe my best here. She's defending so well, so I always had to play the extra shot, but I think it was a good level. I just tried to play a little more aggressive when I was down 3-0, and I think it worked."
