At some point Next Gen will be better than Federer, Nadal, Djokovic - Hunze

Frances Tiafoe is one of the top players included on the 's-Hertogenbonsch Libema Open field. A few weeks ago the American said that the Next Generation breaking through over Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic is just a matter of time. In an exclusive interview to Tennis World USA, the Libema Open Tournament Director Marcel Hunze commented on Tiafoe's quotes. "I think it's a matter of time, we don't know how much time. There is a very strong Next Gen group, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Tiafoe, Daniil Medvedev, a lot of players are playing in 's-Hertogenbosch. We have a lot of young players and at some point, they would be better than Federer, Djokovic and Nadal. It will take some time", said Hunze. On what it takes to run an ATP 250 tournament, he added: "We are working all year on it, of course not full time but we already start preparing next year already a few weeks after the event. Because you need to get good players, the sponsors, improve year by year. It's an interesting job!"

On how disappointing Andy Murray's withdrawal was last year, Hunze concluded: "We have had some very good players in the past like Patrick Rafter and Lleyton Hewitt and Murray was certainly one of the players we wanted to have especially as a Wimbledon champion in a grass event. It was a disappointment for us and even more for him but we do not really need a big name in the future." Murray is still dealing with hip issues.
