Milos Raonic forced to withdraw from Madrid and Rome
Milos Raonic has been forced to withdraw from the Madrid and Rome Open due to a right knee injury. The German Jan-Lennard Struff will take his place. In the past days also Kevin Anderson had announced he would skip those events due to a right elbow injury. Now Andreas Seppi is just two places away from reaching the main draw in Rome. Last year Raonic skipped Rome and French Open too. We will see if he will be able to recover for Lyon and French Open tournaments. On grass, he is set to play in Stuttgart, Queen's and Wimbledon.
Raonic reached the Indian Wells semifinals last month losing to the eventual tournament champion Dominic Thiem. After that match, the Canadian said: "He was pushing me back. He wasn't missing many first serves. He was pushing me back, and then he was aggressive from the very first ball. There weren't many times that I got to be on the offensive on the return games, and, when I did, I wasn't efficient about taking advantage of it. But, you know, we have played a few times now, and it's sort of been the same thing. He had opportunities today to break me. He used one of them. But it was always sort of the person that could be the aggressor that did better."
He reached his best result in Rome in 2014 losing to the eventual winner Novak Djokovic in a three-set semifinal match.
