Pundit shares why Fabio Fognini perfectly suits Rafael Nadal's game

In an interview to Tennis Channel, the former WTA player Chanda Rubin analyzed Rafael Nadal's straight-set loss to Fabio Fognini in the Monte Carlo Masters semifinals. The American said: “I think the struggles Nadal has been having on serve and taking care of that area. He struggled a little bit in his last game as well and this match, getting down and having Fognini just dictating. It was a tough matchup, Fognini is one of those few players who has been able to beat Rafa on this surface because he can hit up the line especially off the backhand side. It is one of Fognini’s best shots and it goes into Nadal’s backhand. The way Rafa mentally looked at times, especially on serve, that was probably most concerning. That’s where we expect him to dig in and really fight and battle. You hope physically he is still feeling good, that’s been a real challenge, and the movement as a result of the knee injury. That would be the two concerns for me.”

Meanwhile, the Amazon Prime pundit Catherine Whitaker commented on Federer possibly competing in Rome after Madrid: "We are expecting Roger Federer to take to the court in Madrid and possibly Rome as well. It is going to be very interesting to see how Roger Federer fits into the complexion of this clay court season.”
