Roger Federer can play until he is 50 years old, says Acasuso

In an interview, former player Jose Acasuso praised Roger Federer's longevity. The Swiss has not set any retirement plans and according to the Argentine, he can play until 2031. "He does not stop surprising. When you think he will drop as time goes on, he reinvents himself, he plays in a different way and he is more and more aggressive. The way he played in the most recent swing was amazing. I saw him playing in Miami and he seemed to be 19 years old and Shapovalov 37. He has so many resources that if nothing happens physically, he can play until 50 years of age at best. He has a lot of variety and he is so talented that he can beat any opponent. It's difficult to face such a player. I think he will head into the clay season very confidently," said Acasuso.

Acasuso also praised Novak Djokovic: "I do not say he is the best of all time, because for titles it's Roger, but at his best level, Nole was able to beat Roger and Rafa on their best surfaces. At his best level, Djokovic did not lose to them."

On his co-operation with Guido Pella, Acasuso concluded: "I started with him prior to the French Open and he told me that he wanted to reach his best ranking which was at No. 39 and I told him that in order to take this step he had to be consistent for the entire match and win big matches and tournament. I am surprised by how well he did in the South American clay swing. He barely defends points these weeks in Europe so he can even get closer to the top 20."
