'Roger Federer is elegance and harmony' - Adriano Panatta

The 1976 French Open winner Adriano Panatta praised Roger Federer's gamestyle. Speaking to Vanity Fair, Panatta, who recently published a book about the tennis history putting Federer on the main page, said: 'Roger Federer is beautiful when he plays, the others play more powerful, but that's a beauty as well because the highest level sport is always nice. They are two different beauties. Federer is elegance and harmony. Even Nadal's strength, his mental strength, is a great beauty as well. It's just different.'

About his idols, Panatta added: 'I like Valentino Rossi, I admired Marco Tardelli a lot, Del Piero, Totti is Universal, for me he is a myth and not just because I am a Rome fan.'

On Serena Williams' controversial behaviour in the US Open final, Panatta said: 'It was a bad moment and non-sense things. You cannot accept what happens on a court. There is no sexism in tennis. It's a battle that Billie Jean King did in the 70s and with what they rightly overcame the difference in tennis. As a champion, Serena Williams could avoid it. It happened to everyone to lose control, but you know that you are representing things for a lot of people. As a kid Federer was so bad, he was breaking rackets and he is a prince now.'
