Bianca Andreescu set to train at Rafa Nadal Academy before Rome Open

Several professionals have been coming to the Rafa Nadal Academy over the last years, and 2019 has made no exception. This week the world No. 1 Naomi Osaka trained there, and Bianca Andreescu plans to do the same thing next week trying to prepare for the clay season as best as she can. The Andreescu's coach Sylvain Bruneau said they are not setting too high expectations as Andreescu has not played any clay tournament this year so far and she will skip the Madrid Open. The Indian Wells defending champion may not play in Rome either, and her comeback could happen a week before the French Open, in Nurnberg or Strasbourg. "We’ll see", said Bruneau. "I don’t think we can really put out objectives now with the long (time) without training and being away from the court. I think we’re going to just go into the clay-court season and hope that she stays healthy. I think it would be a little premature after such a long break to have really high expectations. We’ll just go day by day.”

Andreescu has not had too many training sessions so far on clay but her coach believes she can do a good job: “It suits her game really, really well. She’s able to do the spins, the angles and variations. So I think she’s going to be very effective."

Andreescu won her maiden title in Indian Wells defeating Angelique Kerber in a three-set final.
