Dominic Thiem to play Laver Cup in Geneva

Austrian tennis star Dominic Thiem has confirmed he plans to play at the Laver Cup this year.

The 25-year-old featured the inaugural edition of Laber Cup in Prague two years ago but didn't play at the event last year.

Instead of playing the Laver Cup in Chicago last year, the Austrian opted to play at the St. Petersburg Open.

Thiem, ranked at No. 4 in the world, ended up winning it all at the St. Petersburg event.

In his lone match played at the Laver Cup in 2017, the Austrian came from a set down to edge out USA's John Isner 6-7 (15) 7-6 (2) 10-7 as Team Europe beat Team World.

The third edition of Laver Cup will be held in Geneva, from September 20-22.

"I was a little sad that I wasn't playing last year in Chicago but St. Petersburg (title) was nice too.  This year I play in Geneva," Thiem confirmed ahead of Roland Garros, per Gerald Widhalm.

Meanwhile, Thiem is preparing for his sixth consecutive French Open main draw appearance.

Thiem, the 2018 French Open runner-up, will now be targeting to go a step further and claim his maiden Grand Slam title.
