Marin Cilic: I would love to complete set of Grand Slam finals

Croatian tennis star Marin Cilic was satisfied with his French Open first round performance against world No. 98 Thomas Fabbiano.

Cilic, seeded at No. 11, kicked off his French Open campaign with a straight-set win over the Italian 6-3 7-5 6-1.

Fabbiano recovered from an early first set break but Cilic then broke the Italian twice in a row to seal the opener.

The Italian had a great chance to level the match at a set apiece but failed to serve out for the set in the 10th game as the Croatian stole the second set.

Cilic lost his service in the opening game of the third set but stormed back to win six games in a row to set up a big second-round clash against Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov.

"It feels good. I felt that I played in general really well. It was a good level. The second set wasn't easy, I was a break down (and) he was serving for the second set but from that moment on I put gear on and started to play a little bit more aggressive and started to return as well much better. The third set was really great, I played great tennis at the end," Cilic told Eurosport after the match.

The French Open is the only Grand Slam events where Cilic hasn't reached the final yet.

The Croatian admits he would love to do it this year but insists for now he is taking it a match at a time.

When asked if he would complete the Grand Slam finals' set, Cilic said: "Well, I would love to but, you know, there are many guys that want to do that too. But, you know, I'm taking it step by step, trying to play as well as I can and, you know, continue with my focus and try to lift my game even in the next match. Hopefully, it's gonna work well these few weeks."
