Serena Williams is like Roger Federer, everything is possible - Santoro
In an interview, Fabrice Santoro was asked on Serena Williams' chances at the 2019 French Open. Santoro made an interesting comparison. "Serena is like Roger Federer, an amazing champion who is probably not among the favorites but if like him can go through the first week, then everything is possible. She knows how to deal with this kind of tournament, emotionally and physically," he said. On who could win on the women's side besides Serena, Santoro added: "It's difficult to predict who will win. There are a lot of movements on the top half of the draw. We get lost a bit. If you do not follow closely the Tour, we are not able to name the favorites. If we had to bet on one favorite, it would be Kiki Bertens who recently won in Madrid."
On the Frenchmen's chances, Santoro added: "We have already seen their approach to the French Open. They come there with less pressure. As for Lucas Pouille, it was difficult to imagine, after his semifinal in Melbourne, that he would have won one match on Tour. From the other side, winning the Bordeaux Challenger gave him a bit of confidence. He could come earlier to the French Open and train there, which is an advantage. Gael Monfils us our best chance if he is fit. Pierre-Hugues Herbert constantly grows on all surfaces, including clay. You will have to count on him. Last year he reached the third round losing only to John Isner."
Williams will play Vitalia Diatchenko in the first round of the French Open.
