Mikael Ymer speaks highly of Alexander Zverev ahead of French Open clash

Rising Swedish star Mikael Ymer praised world No. 5 Alexander Zverev ahead of their French Open second round clash.

The 20-year-old Swedish qualifier shined in his Grand Slam main draw debut as he saw off Slovenian Blaz Rola in straight sets 6-0 6-3 7-6 (5) to set up the biggest clash of his career against fifth-seeded Zverev.

On the other side, 11-time ATP champion Zverev survived a tricky first round clash as he needed five sets to beat 56th-ranked John Millman 7-6 (4) 6-3 2-6 6-7 (5) 6-3.

"He (Zverev) has very proven that he belongs up there," Ymer said, per The New Indian Express.

"He is definitely one of the best in the game at the moment, so it's a tough challenge."

Ymer, ranked at No. 148 in the world, bageled Rola in the first set before he broke the Slovenian three times in the second set to take a comfortable two-set lead.

The Swede failed to serve out for the match in the ninth game of the third set but kept his focus as he converted his first match point in the tie-break to seal the win.

It remains to be seen can Ymer pull of a major upset and beat Zverev to reach the third round.
