Rafael Nadal follows routines, doesn't change things - French Open chief
In an interview, the French Open Tournament Director Guy Forget commented on Rafael Nadal's chances in the Parisian tournament. "Every year, Rafa says he is lost and his title is a bit tougher. He is always very focused, he does not like changes. He needs to follow his routine again. Our proudness is that this new stadium was born. The Philippe Chatrier was literally rebuilt over nine months. The Simonne-Mathieu court, surrounded by gardens, is sublime. Even some of the residents who were opposed to it found it very nice. We are proud to show the best players over the world in the French Open. When you are in the hotel, it's nice to get to the metro here over a few minutes, while in other tournaments you have to drive for an hour to reach the stadium."
Is Forget afraid not to see any Frenchman in the second week? "Yeah, there is always the fear of not having a Frenchman, as well as losing a seed, Roger or a Frenchman. Now we have an amount of them in the tournament. Some of them with their experience in the major tournaments will be able to get to the second week. So we will see the glass half full. They are experienced in Grand Slams, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga Richard Gasquet, Gael Monfils or even Lucas Pouille. Just a match where they say, I am playing well again, is needed."
Nadal only lost two matches in the French Open. Against Robin Soderling in the 2009 fourth round and in 2015 against Novak Djokovic in a straight-set quarter-final. Nadal also withdrew from his 2016 third round against Marcel Granollers.
