Toni Nadal blasts Nick Kyrgios: 'What he does is not good for tennis'

In an interview to L'Equipe, Rafael Nadal's uncle Toni commented on Rafael's chances in the French Open. "When he came to Monte Carlo, he had not the level, he was lacking practice, he played very bad against Fabio Fognini, but the confidence is coming back week by week. When he hits he does not think about making an unforced error, he feels safe while hitting the shot and you target the lines more. Rafael will be ready to win the French Open. I am not that optimistic like I was in the previous years where we got to Paris holding many titles, but I feel positive and he has another important week to raise the level. Paris is special: he will play on a court that fits him (Philippe Charter). Djokovic and Thiem will be his biggest rivals, he will have to be consistent."

On Nick Kyrgios, Toni added: "I think it's not normal what he did the other day, what he does is not good for the game. It seems he does not handle the pressure against a lower ranked opponent, but if he focused he would fight to be world No. 1."

The pundit Jordi Arrese concluded: "At best of five sets he is more aggressive because he has a bigger margin. Opponents think that beating him is tougher. Winning in Rome was the best thing that could ever happen to Rafa. He has not headed into the clay with too much confidence and he has now reached at least four semifinals in a row. He would have been a favourite even if he did not win in Rome because he is very ambitious, he enjoys competing. That happens also to Djokovic and Federer, they are three superhumans."
