Nicolas Mahut commits to play Queen's until he retires

French tennis veteran Nicolas Mahut has committed to play Queen's until he retires.

The Frenchman, who debuted in the Queen's main draw in 2003, has been one of the most regular participants of the popular British grass-court event over the last decade and a half.

The 37-year-old fell just short of winning his maiden Queen's singles title in 2007 as he ended runner-up in the final to Andy Roddick.

This year, Mahut made it past the qualifying event and made the quarterfinal before he was beaten by fellow compatriot Gilles Simon.

"Applauds for Nicolas Mahut, (a) great guy, great player and huge (fan) favourite in Queen's. (He was) so unfortunate yesterday in his marathon quarter-final with Gilles Simon. Next year Nico, next year," Queen's Tournament Director Stephen Farrow tweeted.

Mahut won back-to-back doubles titles in Queen's with fellow compatriot Pierre-Hugues Herbert in 2015 and 2016 respectively.

"Thank you (Stephen Farrow) so much for your support over the years. Really grateful for what you did for me. As long as I am a tennis player I will come back here in this unbelievable, the Queen's Club," Mahut said on Twitter.
