Pablo Carreno Busta’s Stuttgart debut delayed as he pulls out of event

Spanish tennis star Pablo Carreno Busta won’t be opening his 2019 grass campaign in the opening week of the grass season as he has withdrawn from Stuttgart

The 27-year-old Spaniard was expected to make his debut appearance on the grass of Stuttgart next week as he has no previous appearances at the tournament. 

Former world No. 10 Carreno Busta last played at the French Open, where his campaign ended on a disappointing way as an injury forced him to retire his third round clash to home favorite Benoit Paire while he was down two sets to one. 

It remains to be seen will former world No. 10 Carreno Busta recover in time to open his grass campaign in Halle, which starts the week after Stuttgart. 

Meanwhile, a place in the Stuttgart main draw has opened for world No. 65 Steve Johnson following the withdrawal of Carreno Busta. 

The 29-year-old American is set to make his second appearance on the grass courts of Stuttgart. 

In his Stuttgart debut two years ago, former world No. 21 Johnson beat German Maximilian Marterer in the first round before losing to another German, Philipp Kohlschreiber.
