Federer, Djokovic, Nadal playing in the same era is unique - Massu

In an interview with Laola, Dominic Thiem's coach Nicolas Massu spoke about what it means to have Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic winning so many titles. The Chilean, speaking in Hamburg, said: "I think it's good because it makes you have someone that makes you better. Someone that always pushes you. I spent many years with the three best players on Tour and I can say that it's special. I played with Federer in juniors and then against Nadal and Djokovic. Having those three players in the same era is something unique."

On how Thiem worked following his early Wimbledon loss to Sam Querrey, Massu added: "We tried to make a successful switch from grass to clay courts. We added some things in training. To list all of them, I should speak for an hour."

Asked if they set particular goals, Massu replied: "One of the goals is obviously to reach the London ATP Finals. It would be the fourth consecutive time. Winning a big title is always a goal too. At Indian Wells, Dominic showed that it's possible on hard too."

On Thiem's loss to Sam Querrey in the Wimbledon opening round, Massu concluded: "Wimbledon was not a good draw but if you want to win the title, you have to beat everyone. If you have good results or a good year, people expect you to win everything. It does not work like this on the ATP Tour. Not the same people win all weeks. Many good people want to win titles."
