Marc Rosset: I am very sad for Roger Federer, but he can win a Major again
In an interview to Tages Anzeiger, the former world no. 9 Marc Rosset commented on Roger Federer's loss to Novak Djokovic in Wimbledon. "I am very sad for Roger. You realize the effort he makes to deliver at this level for five hours, two days after beating Rafael Nadal, at almost 38 years of age. But he can win a Grand Slam again. He was one point away. He fought on every point," said Rosset.
The former world No. 2 Alex Corretja said: "There is no one who does not like Federer's game style."
On Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabal winning the doubles title, he added: "I was very happy, I feel unbelievable respect and admiration for them. On the women's final, Simona Halep's win was surprising."
Jonas Bjorkman commented on the Big Three's dominance: "In the past, the top 20 players were losing against each other, now it's only the top four or five. Many young and talented players play very well, but they do not perform as well as Nadal and Djokovic, or Federer, who is very consistent. You need role models, which is a problem for us in Sweden."
Federer will next play the Western and Southern Cup in Cincinnati, before the US Open. He will not be playing the Montreal edition of the Rogers Cup this year. The Swiss is the defending finalist in Cincinnati. Federer, who is currently ranked third in the world is 485 points behind the world no. 2, Rafael Nadal.
