When Djokovic wins Wimbledon, US Open is a sitting duck
Novak Djokovic won Wimbledon four times and US Open three times in the last ten years, but the interesting fact is that he never won US Open in the years when he didn’t raise the Wimbledon trophy above his head.
According to the statistics, Djokovic has a 75% chance of bagging the US Open when he wins at the All England Club. The Serbian won the London’s Grand Slam in 2011, 2014, 2015, and 2018 while he conquered the American Grand Slam in 2011, 2015, and 2018. This means that Novak won the US Open in three of the four years when he won Wimbledon.
In the years when he failed to win Wimbledon, Djokovic never managed to win at Flushing Meadows. This may be only a coincidence, but Serbian performs better at the US Open when knowing that his name was engraved once again on the Wimbledon’s hall of fame.
Considering the stats presented above, Djokovic is heading toward another successful hard court campaign.
When Novak wins Wimbledon he is probably impulsed to visualize himself winning the next Grand Slam on the schedule and that is obviously the US Open. The Serbian talked about his visualization technique: "The visualization is part of the mental preparation. It's very, very important to me. I do it all the time. If I have a part that I do for myself regardless of the opponent because I want to rely on my strengths. I want them to be highlighted."
Regarding his 2018 US Open campaign, Novak defeated Argentinian Juan Martin Del Potro without problems in the final. However, Djokovic didn’t meet either Nadal or Federer in his thriving road to the title.
Now, the Serbian will start the Grand Slam as the reigning champion, so a new triumph is in the cards.
