Albert Ramos Vinolas: I was nervous and stressed against Fernando Verdasco

Spanish clay-court specialist Albert Ramos Vinolas admitted to feeling nervous and stressed at the end of his Bastad round-of-16 clash against fellow compatriot Fernando Verdasco .

Ramos Vinolas, who has fallen to No. 99 in the world, managed not to blow a big lead as he handed a straight-set defeat to second-seeded Verdasco 6-2 6-4.

Verdasco saved three set points in the seventh game of the first set to stop Ramos Vinolas' five-game run but the world No. 99 kept his focus as he routinely sdrved out for the set in the following game.

2016 Bastad champion Ramos Vinolas continued his run at the tournament of the second set as he broke Verdasco twice to take a comfortable 5-2 lead.

Verdasco refused to five up as he saved two match points in the eighth game -- three more in the ninth game -- but then failed to convert a break point in the 10th game as Ramos Vinolas managed to serve out for the match.

"I'm really happy. I have great memories here," Ramos Vinolas said during his on-court interview.

"I think it was the fourth match that we played here in Bastad and it was difficult, at the end it was really difficult.

"Yeah, (I was getting nervous) a lot. I was really nervous because I had match points at 5-2, match points at 5-3 and then match points at 5-4 and then I get the win. I was really stressed."

Ramos Vinolas will play next against another Spaniard, Roberto Carballes Baena.
