Nicolas Jarry: Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Djokovic are not my idols

In an interview, Nicolas Jarry gave his thoughts on Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Asked if he is inspired by them, Jarry replied: "I would love to play against them because they are the best, but I am not obsessed by them. They are not my idols. I like the fighters, which is an ability I did not have and that I had to get. I admire the 37-year-old Italian Paolo Lorenzi who fights a lot and cares a lot about his life and tennis."

On his relationship with the Chileans, Jarry added: "Nicolas Massu gives enormous energy on the court. I heard Fernando Gonzalez much more. When he played his last match in Miami, I was living in the United States. We played a set and I gave him a good feeling. From then he helps me and anytime I have a doubt, I ask him."

Jarry also praised the Laver Cup where he played last year in the United States competing for Team World: "It's I think the best event out there. It's team, best level, and then tennis. That's it. I'm so happy to be here, thrilled to be with this team. I'm enjoying every day, trying to make the best out of all the guys here and try to incorporate into myself."

Jarry has won his maiden career-title in last week's Bastad Swedish Open defeating Juan Ignacio Londero in a straight-set final 7-6, 6-4. This week, he will play the Hamburg German Open facing the local hero Alexander Zverev in the first round.
