Toni Nadal reveals Rafael's most special tournament
In an interview Toni Nadal was asked what has been the most special tournament in his nephew Rafael's career. Toni picked the Barcelona Open, where later this month the 32-year-old will seek his 12th title. "It's the hometown tournament, a very special one, where we always felt close. For me because I spent very important years of my youth and for Rafael because it's his club. We always felt very loved", said Toni.
An anecdote: "Carlos Moya's question. One day Moya asked me if I would sign that Rafael get to what Albert Costa did. I told him: 'Not even by joke'. Years after I asked Rafael if he would sign to have Moya's career and he said No as well. We were right."
A suggestion: "Wanting to evolve. Always be willing to improve and learn. That's needed for Rafael and for any player who wants to progress. Understanding where the game goes and evolve, because if you want to work, you will make it."
Toni believes that his nephew Rafael playing being injured was a bless: "Playing and winning being injured. Achieving all what he achieved being hurt. That's a bless. I do not think anyone would be able to cope with all what he suffered. He was unbelievable. I was telling him: you are an injured guy who plays tennis."
