Taylor Fritz: I have always dreamed of becoming top-ranked American
Rising American star Taylor Fritz reveals he has always been dreaming of becoming the top-ranked American one day.
Fritz, ranked at No. 32 in the world, is currently the second highest-ranked American male player.
Isner, 34, is the top-ranked American player as he sits at No. 14 in the world.
Fritz, who started the season ranked at No. 49 in the world, achieved his career-high ranking of No. 30 last week.
"It's really cool being the No. 2 American, especially being 21 years old, being young. I think it’s really cool. And it’s always been a dream of mine to be the No. 1 American. I think it would be so cool if I was able to accomplish that sometime sooner. It’s something that I always dreamed about." Fritz exclusively told the USTA website.
Fritz has a good chance to continue his ranking rise if he performs well in the second half of the season.
The 21-year-old doesn't have many points to defend in the rest of the year.
The American's most notable results in the second half of the 2018 season were a semifinal finish in Chengdu and a quarterfinal showing in Basel respectively.
