Radu Albot: I don't wanna see tennis dead in Moldova when I retire
Radu Albot of Moldova has higher goals than just being a good tennis player as he wants to promote tennis in his country and motivate younger generations to pick up a racket and play the game.
Albot, who turned professional in 2008, is enjoying a breakthrough season on the tour.
The 29-year-old won his maiden ATP title earlier this year after coming from a set down to beat Great Britain's Daniel Evans in the Delray Beach Open final.
Albot, who also made the semifinals in Montpellier and Geneva, achieved his career-high ranking of No. 40 in the world in May.
"The task will not be easy. Unfortunately, Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Europe, but that does not take away the illusion. I do not want to finish my career and see that tennis is dead in my country. I want to walk into every tournament and see the Moldovan flag flying," Albot told the Los Cabos tournament website.
World No. 42 Albot will debut on the hard courts of Los Cabos later this month.
