Roger Federer proved us wrong, he can still win a Major - Mats Wilander
In an interview to Simon Graf, the seven-time Grand Slam winner Mats Wilander commented on Roger Federer's Wimbledon final loss to Novak Djokovic. The Swede said: "Federer can take a lot of positives from this tournament. He showed he can still win the US Open. And the Australian Open. And next year’s Wimbledon. He is better that two years ago. Which is unbelievable. He will get more shots at winning a major title. Before Wimbledon, we thought this could be his last chance. He proved us wrong. Of course, this hurts. But he has got 20 majors. Maybe this was compensatory justice for 2009 against Andy Roddick."
Djokovic' coach Marian Vajda added: "That's an absolutely special win, it was an epic final. I can say that nobody wanted to lose. Federer tried everything. It was one of the best final, as balanced as ever. 12-all in the fifth set, it was the first time in a Wimbledon final. I was surprised that Novak won all the three tie-breaks, coping with Roger's serve and aggressive game. It's unbelievable. Four Majors, it's easy to say but difficult to do. With 16, it looks better. He is mentally and physically doing very well. US Open is a different tournament, the hard court is physically busy, it's a long journey but hopefully, he makes it."
Djokovic will now take a break, probably going to Serbia, his native country, before going back to practice ahead of Montreal and Cincinnati events.
