Wimbledon final day recap: Djokovic still on the throne
2019 Wimbledon men's singles final made one thing clear; Novak Djokovic will try in every way to reach Roger Federer's records. The epic final (the longest ever) won by the world's no. 1 after five sets and nearly five hours of battle was decided by the super tie-break.
Nole has become a virus for Federer, who just can't find a proper cure (the Swiss lost the last four consecutive Slam finals against Nole, three of them at Wimbledon). The two failed match points from the Swiss in the fifth set will probably not make him sleep this night, but what do we want to say to a myth who on the eve of the 38-years-old plays better than all the Next Gen put together?
The sixteen year old Japanese Shintaro Mochizuki defeated in the final the Spaniard Gimeno Valero, and won the title of men's singles juniors. The Ukrainian Daria Snigur is instead the junior women's champion; in the final she beat Alexa Noel. The Colombians Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabal defeated in the men's doubles final Nicolas Mahut and Roger Vasselin, while Su-Wei Hsieh and Barbora Strycova won the women's doubles against Timea Babos and Kristina Mladenovic.
What is left of this Wimbledon edition? An epic final, the Old Gen that showed a great superiority compared to the Next Gen, the disappointment of Federer and Serena Williams, an increasingly cloyingly slow playing surface and the quarrels of Fognini, Tomic and Kyrgios, who put some pepper on a lower overall edition (from the point of view of the quality of the matches) compared to 2018.
