Albert Ramos-Vinolas reacts to ending runner-up in Kitzbuhel

Spanish clay-court specialist Albert Ramos-Vinolas insists it was a great week for him in Kitzbuhel despite falling just short of winning it all. 

Ramos-Vinolas, ranked at No. 69 in the world, was seeking to win back-to-back titles but he couldn't come up with a surprise win over top seed Dominic Thiem in the Kitzbuhel final. 

World No. 4 Thiem handed a straight-set defeat to last week's Gstaad champion Ramos-Vinolas 7-6 (0) 6-1 to finally fulfill his dream of winning it all in front of his home fans in Kitzbuhel. 

"I think it was a great week,” Ramos-Vinolas said, as revealed on the ATP website. “Obviously, after winning a title last week, I arrived here a little bit late and a little bit tired but I think I put my 100 percent [into the week]."

After serving out the 11th game for a 6-5 first set lead, Ramos-Vinolas' game out of nowhere fell apart as Thiem dominated the rest of the match to claim the win. 

"Today is obviously not the best day for me, but I lost against a great opponent on his best surface, in his country, with all the crowd with him,” Ramos-Vinolas said. “So, I think that it has been a great week for me.”
