Kevin Anderson, Marin Cilic confirmed for Tokyo

The Japan Open player field has gotten better for two well-known stars as two-time Grand Slam runner-up Kevin Anderson and 2014 US Open champion Marin Cilic have signed up to play in Tokyo this year, per Michal Samulski.

The 33-year-old South-African, who debuted at the Tokyo event in 2013, has been a regular participant at the Japanese event since his debut as he is set to make his seventh consecutive appearance at the tournament.

Interestingly, former world No. 5 Anderson has yet to make a deep run in Tokyo as his best run at the tournament came last year, when he made the quarterfinal before losing to France's Richard Gasquet.

On the other side, Cilic -- who debuted in Tokyo as a teenager in 2006 -- will also be making his seventh appearance at the Japanese ATP 500 event this year.

The 30-year-old Croatian will also be aiming lift his maiden Tokyo title this year as his previous best results at the tournament were back-to-back semifinals achieved in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

The Japan Open, which is set to be held from September 30 - October 06, will be highlighted by the debut appearance of world No. 1 and 16-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic.
