David Goffin speaks extremely highly of Daniil Medvedev
Belgian tennis star David Goffin showed his class after losing in the Cincinnati Masters final as he dropped several praises on his opponent Daniil Medvedev, who beat him 7-6 (3) 6-4 to lift his maiden Masters title.
Medvedev, 23, has been performing at a high level in his first three tournaments since Wimbledon as he finished runner-up in Washington and the Montreal Masters before finally making it a step further in Cincinnati.
The Russian's run to the Cincinnati title also included straight-set wins over Kyle Edmund, Benoit Paire, Jan-Lennard Struff and Andrey Rublev, while he only needed three sets against world No. 1 Novak Djokovic.
"He's super solid. He doesn't miss. It's like playing against a wall,” Goffin said said of playing against Medvedev, as revealed on the ATP website. “Just playing cross, cross, wait for the ball. His pace is not too fast, not too slow. It's quite a special pace to play against him. And then you receive bombs coming from his serve, and then he doesn't miss.
“That's why everybody is struggling, because he's so consistent, now with more confidence.”
Former world No. 7 Goffin leaves Cincinnati in good spirits despite falling just short of landing his maiden Masters title after becoming the first Belgian to reach a Masters final.
"I enjoyed a lot... I always had good matches here, good results. It was a second semi-final back-to-back, and then I won the semi-final against Richard [Gasquet], so it's another final. Good memories again,” Goffin insisted. “It's always a special tournament because I know that I play well here.”
