Novak Djokovic: 'Win over Roger Federer may be a breakthrough for Rublev'
In an interview to Tennis Channel Novak Djokovic commented on the time when he made a breakthrough. The Serbian player said: "It was probably a combination of things, between the experience of playing big matches on big courts against top guys, and then really believing that you can do it, that you can beat those guys, and get one or two scalps that gets you going. Obviously you need a breakthrough. Rublev had a big win today (against Roger Federer), maybe that's going to be a breakthrough for him. Obviously a lot of these young guys dreaming to play in the bigger courts against top players of the world and they did not have that much to lose when they play at their best and then they earn awareness, he did today, you just have to congratulate him, we have some new guys from the Next Gen like Denis Shapovalov, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Zverev is leading the way. Dominic Thiem has been around for a while. Probably the one thing was mental."
On his straight-set win over Pablo Carreno Busta on Thursday, Djokovic added: "I am happy with my level, with the level of the match in general. I thought Pablo was playing very quality tennis, solid from the back of the court, as soon as he had a shorter ball coming in. I had to serve well, which I have done, and it got me out of the trouble especially in the second set when I had to face some break points. It was a straight-set win but it had to be earned."
