Only Djokovic-Nadal match was better than Medvedev-Djokovic, says Rusedski
British pundit Greg Rusedski believes that Daniil Medvedev's performance against Novak Djokovic was the second-best of the year in tennis. Rusedski said: "I think it was one of the best performances of all season if we look at what he did out there. The only one that comes to mind is Djokovic against Nadal in the Australian Open final. What I loved was the tactical astuteness. He realised he couldn’t beat Djokovic in long rallies so he shortened the points. Started serving 121mph on his second serve. So for me he is just such a great match player. And you love to see that he has no fear against the very best.”
Daniela Hantuchova added: “It was incredible. When he plays as he did in the second and third set there is absolutely no way anyone can stop him. The world No 1 was not able to return his second serve. That shows the kind of level he is able to play week in week out. This is the third week in a row he’s been able to show us this kind of tennis."
What's the white powder that Medvedev puts on his hands? "It's one gel to not have sweaty hands because it's so humid in the USA," replied the Russian. "And funny thing, I started using it last year in Winston-Salem, and after this, my results were only going up. So now, even when it's not humid, I put just a little bit, because when it's not humid it destroys your skin, basically. But it helps me so much because otherwise I just cannot hold the racquet. It just slips out of my hand."
