Robert Farah congratulates Filip Polasek on amazing comeback to tennis
Croatian doubles specialist Ivan Dodig enjoyed the Cincinnati Masters doubles final atmosphere as he and partner Filip Polasek stunned No. 1 seeds Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah 4-6 6-4 10-6 to win their maiden team title.
Cabal and Farah, who have won four titles this season and recently captured their maiden Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, appeared to be heading towards another title but Dodig and Polasek refused to quit after losing the opener.
"To see a full stadium today was amazing for both of us, for both teams,” Dodig said post-match, as revealed on the ATP website. “We had a great fight on the court and we really [played] great tennis today."
Dodig and Polasek, who were playing together just for the fourth time, previously had notable runs in their first two tournaments as they ended runners-up at the Antalya Open before making the Wimbledon semifinal respectively.
Polasek, 34, has become one of the best stories on the tour as he is enjoying doubles success after playing his first match since 2013 last year.
"They played a great match. They’ve been playing good for already a couple months and Polasek was out for a while,” Farah said. “To come back the way you’ve been coming back, it’s seriously very impressive, so congrats for that.”
