Rafael Nadal: 'I was happy for David Ferrer's wins even when he beat me'
In an interview Rafael Nadal praised David Ferrer who retired from the professional tour earlier this year in Madrid. The world No. 2 said: "David is a good mate and friend first of all, over all those years we spent on the Tour and off it. Besides a great person he is also a player who achieved consistency and a very high level making a daily effort to make his game get to the limit of his chances. It's difficult to find a better example of professionalism, he did a lot of sacrifices to be better and he achieved it. I was happy for his wins even when he faced me. We shared a lot of moments together, a French Open final, it's a major absence but he needs to enjoy his family, he will be remembered as a good person and as one of the most important players over the last 20 years."
Ferrer said: "It's right how they remember me, with values, humility and a lot of respect towards tennis. Now I would like to be with my family but next year I will definitely have projects connected to tennis, but there is nothing decided, I want to enjoy my time."
Daniela Hantuchova, a former world No. 4, spoke about Roger Federer's losses to Novak Djokovic in Wimbledon and Andrey Rublev in Cincinnati: “We’ve seen Roger, unfortunately, losing a lot of matches being match points up compared to Novak or Rafa. He, unfortunately, leads this list. It is something for sure he was not sleeping for quite some time. That’s why I loved how relaxed he was off the court in the training sessions and I thought he was in good shape. Unfortunately we must give a lot of credit to Rublev as well because he played incredible tennis.”
