Serena Williams is the highest female paid athlete! While Maria Sharapova..
Tennis players lead the highest-paid female athletes list shared by Forbes. Taking into consideration the earnings between May 31, 2018, and May 31 2019, Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka are the athletes in the world who have earned the most. Grand Slams have been paying the same prize money for both men and women and tennis is one of the most equal sports.
Serena leads the way with $29.2 million in total, including $25 coming from endorsements like Gatorade, Wilson, Nike. Osaka earned $24.3 million, including $16m. from endorsements. Angelique Kerber follows with $11.8m. In total, then Simona Halep (10.2), Sloane Stephens (9.6) complete the top five. On the top 10 among the others, there is Maria Sharapova on the seventh place. The Russian was the highest-paid female athlete for more than a decade, but her doping ban in 2017 influenced her earnings. She has earned "only" $6 million from endorsements like Nike, Head, Evian, Tag Heuer and Porsche. Both Serena and Sharapova are motivated to keep competing at the highest level, which could definitely benefit her portfolio.
In an interview to Essence Magazine, Serena Williams commented on her passion for tennis. The American player keeps being fully motivated in order to achieve the highest goals. “My biggest joy is that I know that I’m doing something that I’ve always wanted to do, that I always dreamed of doing, I just needed to do it on my own", confessed Serena. "Because when you invest in yourself, it helps your confidence, and you’ll know forever that whether you make it or not, you stepped up to the plate."
