Taylor Fritz blasts USTA for not giving US Open wildcard to Tommy Paul

American tennis star Taylor Fritz couldn't believe that the United States Tennis Association (USTA) overlooked his fellow compatriot Tommy Paul and didn't award him a main draw wildcard for the US Open.

On Tuesday, the USTA handed six wildcards for the US Open -- but surprisingly world No. 112 Paul wasn't on the recipient list.

The six main draw wildcard recipients -- Denis Kudla, Jack Sock, Ernesto Escobedo, Bjorn Fratangelo, Marcos Giron and Zachary Svajda -- are all ranked below Paul -- except Kudla, who is ranked at No. 111 in the world.

Following the withdrawal of Juan Martin del Potro, a place in the US Open main draw opened for Kudla.

Fritz predicted Kudla wouldn't need a wildcard as he hoped the USTA would do the "right thing" and give it to Paul.

Instead, the wildcard was awarded to Chris Eubanks.

"Kudla is next in and will get in... So I really hope that wildcard goes to the person who truly deserves it more than anyone," Fritz added.
