Pierre-Hugues Herbert won't return to Tokyo for first time since 2015
French tennis player Pierre-Hugues Herbert, 28, won't be making his second appearance at the Japan Open as he has withdrawn from the next week's ATP 500 event in Tokyo.
Herbert, ranked at No. 56 in the world, won't be returning to the indoor-hard courts of Tokyo for the first time since 2015, when he failed to make it past the qualifying event and clinch a main draw spot at the tournament.
The Frenchman won two qualifying matches to make his main draw debut at the Japan Open in 2014, before he picked up a first round defeat at the hands of Kazakh Andrey Golubev.
Herbert, who achieved a career-high ranking of No. 36 earlier this season, has now picked up back-to-back tournaments withdrawals as he had also pulled out of this week's inaugural edition of Zhuhai Championships.
Following the withdrawal of the 28-year-old Frenchman, a place in the Tokyo main draw has opened for rising Australian star Jordan Thompson, who is now set to make his debut at the Japanese ATP 500 event.
