WTA US Open: Mighty Serena Williams thumps Qiang Wang in 44 minutes!

The six-time US Open champion Serena Williams has stormed into her 13th semi-final in New York, demolishing Qiang Wang 6-1, 6-0 in 44 minutes for the 100th victory at the US Open! It was an incredible performance from the 23-time Grand Slam champion, dropping seven points on serve and firing 25 winners and ten unforced errors to mount all the pressure on the other side of the net. Unable to do anything in her service games, Wang dropped almost unreal 73% of the points to suffer five breaks from as many chances offered to Serena who marched towards the finish line and the place in the last four at the home Major, never losing before the semis here since 2007!

Williams held at 15 in the opening game after a forehand winner and grabbed a break in game two with a drive-volley winner to open the gap and settle into a nice rhythm. A backhand down the line winner pushed Serena 3-0 in front, earning a break at 15 in the fourth game to increase the advantage after just 12 minutes. A forehand error from Wang sent Serena 5-0 up and the American sealed the opener with another mighty forehand in game seven for a 6-1 after 23 minutes! Standing as the only player on the court in set number two, Williams clinched 24 out of 28 points to storm over her opponent and march towards the spot in the semi-final.

Serena broke at love in the first game with a backhand return winner, holding with a forehand winner to cement the break and securing another one with a break at love for a 3-0 lead. A service winner in the fourth game pushed Williams closer to the finish line, breaking again with a forehand winner and moving over the top with a forehand winner in game six for the most impressive Grand Slam win since the US Open 2014.
