Daniil Medvedev Confirmed for ATP Rotterdam Event
Tennis - Daniil Medvedev is the in-form player on the ATP Tour currently and the Russian has signed up to play next year's ABN Amro tournament in Rotterdam.
The Russian has won four tournaments this year including the Shanghai Masters and the Cincinnati Masters besides reaching the final of the US Open, where he lost a classic five-setter to Rafael Nadal. During the post Wimbledon stretch, he reached six consecutive finals on the ATP Tour - the others being Washington, Montreal and St. Petersburg.
Tournament Director Richard Krajicek made the announcement, saying, "Daniil Medvedev is the player of the moment. Not for nothing did he beat Novak Djokovic twice this year and made Rafael Nadal struggle in the US Open final. As Alexander Zverev said, he is perhaps the best of everyone at the moment."
This is the third time that Medvedev will be playing in the tournament in Rotterdam - he reached the quarter-finals as a qualifier in 2018 and the semi-finals in 2019. Hopefully, he will go one better next year.
The 23-year-old Russian has won a total of 7 ATP titles and is currently ranked a career-best No. 4 in the world rankings. He is currently in Paris for the Paris Masters and has qualified for the season-ending ATP Finals in London for the first time in his career.
The event in Rotterdam is held every February and next year. the dates are from 8th February to 16th February. This is the second major announcement by the organizers for next year's event. Earlier this month, it was confirmed that David Goffin will play the tournament next year as well.
