Marat Safin speaks about relationship with Novak Djokovic
The former world No. 1 Marat Safin was asked if he is still in a good relationship with the Serb Novak Djokovic and if they sometimes text each other. The Russian said: "No, tennis is single in all the ways. Everybody has his team and his interests."
When Safin ended his career, on a farewell video Djokovic said, Marat, we will see each other soon, we will go skiing. Asked if it happened, Safin replied: "No, I never went on holidays with any tennis player. I speak with the Spanish guys I grew up with. Andrey Rublev and Karen Khachanov's coaches. I have a very few friends. I know a lot of people. I learned to solve problems by myself. I do not need to be saved. I can count on a certain amount of people on certain things. There are still people who I can communicate with."
Safin has a very few friends, no idols. And he doesn't believe in God... "Why don't I believe? I believe in the existence of a superior mind. Everyone believes in what they want to believe. I respect the religions."
Asked if he thinks Diego Maradona is the best footballer for him, Safin replied: "Well, he has God's hand. Everyone thinks about it in a different way. Someone believes Maradona is the best, someone Pele, Ronaldo, Messi."
Djokovic is set to play the Paris Masters next week, which will mark his first official tournament since Shanghai.
