Michael Mortensen Believes Holger Rune Has Potential to be a Top Player
Tennis - Famous Danish tennis expert Michael Mortensen says that 16-year-old Holger Rune has good potential after he claimed the ITF World Junior Masters title and reached the World No. 1 ranking in the junior category.
Mortensen says, "You don't win big tournaments and become number one in the juniors if you don't have huge potential. He has progressed a lot this season and has gained several facets in his game. He is shaping up as a player, and in the long term he has to manage the transformation from junior to senior, he must be single-minded, and he has that focus on."
Mortensen, a commentator for Eurosport, says, "Already on a good day he can beat players from the top-100 and top-200, but there are many good players on the tour with great experience, who can make it difficult for players with less experience. For Holger, it's all about being constantly curious about developing and being open to input so that he becomes complete. He is hard working and is a man on a mission. He needs to dose the tournaments properly, so he also has time to train every detail of the game, and the physical part needs to be focused so he doesn't get hurt, but builds an armor that can withstand storms."
With Clara Tauson also reaching the No. 1 spot in the junior girls' section earlier this year, Mortensen believes that the future of Danish tennis looks bright. "We are going to have some fantastic years in Danish tennis. We have to praise ourselves for having Holger and Clara. Now they must focus on playing ITF tournaments and working their way up the world rankings."
