Jannik Sinner reacts to Frances Tiafoe win at Next Gen ATP Finals
Rising Italian star Jannik Sinner, 18, quickly adapted to the format used at the Next Gen ATP Finals and kicked off his debut campaign at the tournament with a win.
The 18-year-old delighted the home fans in Milan on Tuesday as he came from a set down to beat this year's Australian Open quarterfinalist Frances Tiafoe 3-4 (4) 4-2 4-2 4-2
"Different rules here, everything going is very fast. You have to be very focussed on the deciding points,” Sinner said after the match, per the Next Gen ATP Finals website. “Being in Milan, many [Italian] people are coming to watch. I’m just very happy."
Sinner, ranked at No. 95 in the world, doesn't have as much experience as former world No. 29 Frances Tiafoe but still managed to beat the 2018 Delray Beach Open champion.
"I think me and Tiafoe think very similarly, so you have to be very tough with the mental aspect. I think I did that very well today," Sinner added.
Sinner, who has drawn lots of positive attention to his name this year and emerged as one of the most promising players on the Tour, is eager to continue his rise and improvement going forward.
"I think I’ve improved everything,” Sinner said. “We’re just improving day after day. That’s our main goal and then the results will come."
