Mental struggle was making Roger Federer not control emotions -Annacone
Roger Federer's former coach Paul Annacone spoke to W Radio Colombia about how the Swiss player's mentality has evolved when he was a younger player. The American worked with the Basel native between 2010 and 2013 when Federer was already very solid mentally, which was not the case until around 2002. "When I talked to him about it, he started to realize that because of his lack of control of his emotions he was not able to play in big points and in the big moments having a clear mind. With the ability to really focus on what he wanted to do.
He just decided that he needed to control the moments so that he could understand what he was trying to do and really commit to that when emotions can overwhelm you. This is the challenge with any sport with so much passion. You have to keep motivated and to keep you going in a positive way. But without a clear mind, making decisions is more difficult. Roger learned to do that by himself, he decided by himself because he was feeling like he was missing too many opportunities", said Annacone. "For me to be one of those people who was able to help with strategy, training blocks, open challenges himself and deal with advertisity, it was a terrific few years."
Annacone then worked with Taylor Fritz and Sloane Stephens for not a too long time.
