Roger Federer: 'I would have liked to win Champions League with FC Basel'
Roger Federer was asked what team he would have liked to win football Champions League competition with. The Swiss said: "Let's be honest, you do not win it forenight. Not all the players win it. I am very happy to have chosen tennis and not football at 12 years of age. It was a great decision. I wanted to control the point, use variety in football and my dream team would have been FC Basel."
On how it feels to play in Quito, Ecuador, Federer added: "It's great to see Nicolas Lapentti again, a player who I always admired, I always liked training and playing with him. He is one of the funniest people and it's a big thing to have such a successful player from Ecuador. He was world No. 6 in a game where so many people play. I want to thank all the people to make it possible, they made a lot of effort for just a one-day event. We will give our best during the match."
In Ecuador the highest attendance ever in the country for a tennis match will be set. "I am emotional hearing it, it really shows there is emotion for tennis and sports in general and I hope it inspires many kids to start playing tennis because learning to lose and to win is really a tennis lesson, the fair play. Tennis features all the values."
Federer spoke about how it felt to play in Mexico City: "It's always better because you expect worse cases. In worse cases, if something goes wrong or if somebody gets hurt, people don't have a great time. Of course it met my expectations, I had a dream match in a dream stadium."
