'Roger Federer should reunite ATP, ITF and Laver Cup authorities'

In an interview with Tages Anzeiger, Rene Stammbach, ITF official and Swiss Tennis Federation President, spoke about his relationship with Roger Federer. Stammbach said: "We meet once a year in private to exchange opinions. We plan for half an hour but it's usually for two hours. He needs to have an interest in our developments. If, for example, we of ITF decided to hold Davis Cup during the same week as Laver Cup, there would be big differences. We want to avoid it. That's why we need to sit around a table. Federer, Godsick, David Haggerty, myself and the new ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi. That was my request to Federer. He is the only one who can reunite us and say, Guys, we have a plan on how to handle the calendar. I told him, I do not think you should look at your manager because you have a huge knowledge by yourself. He wants a long term future for the Laver Cup."

On possibly seeing Davis Cup and ATP Cup combined, Stammbach added: "None from ATP came to us. And viceversa. Not even our President was invited to an ATP meeting. Women work better. There is an ITF President in the WTA administration. That's why it works so well. We will hold the Fed Cup in Budapest next year putting WTA points at stake. Look at what happened with the Davis Cup Finals in Madrid: we had BNP Paribas as a sponsor getting $2 million every year. It left. Kosmos doubled this amount with eight sponsors paying 3-4 million each. There 30 million."
