The Dynamics of Garbine Muguruza and Conchita Martinez to be in 2020

Garbine Muguruza and Conchita Martinez have paired up again for the 2020 upcoming season. Martinez said on her social media that "Garbine and I will work together in the 2020 season. With new challenges and enthusiasm." The first time that Conchita Martinez, a former grand slam champ had helped Garbine Muguruza it was to substitute for her full-time coach Sam Sumyk when he had to step away to be with his family. During that time, the 2017 Wimbledon Championships would see Garbine move to the finals defeating Venus Williams capturing her first grass-court title. Conchita was overjoyed, but with Sumyk's return, Muguruza wasn't able to maintain that Wimbledon victory mantra. The lackluster performances continued and soon she decided to release Sumyk from his coaching duties. She was apprehensive to go it alone, asking Spanish captain of Fed Cup, Anabel Medina to help out for her U.S. Open stint. The results again were unlucky. She lost the fluency, consistency and self-confidence she had during Wimbledon. She experienced her rankings plummet to No. 35. The Spaniard was forced to re-evaluate her priorities and work into what would improve her game.

The 2019 season was one to forget for Muguruza who not only could not defend her 2018 Wimbledon title but lost in the first round of this year's Wimbledon to a qualifier Beatriz Haddad Maia in straight sets. She won only a single title, the Monterrey Open the entire year and failed to go deep in many tournaments. Conchita Martinez at the time was coaching Karolina Pliskova and the Czech soon let go of Martinez when she failed to go further in the WTA Finals. "I decided I will no longer work with Conchita...It was a tough decision...Life is a change!!" She had commented on her social media. Martinez took it lightly saying "We have a good relationship and we always will." But Muguruza thought about the communication and rewards of having Conchita the last time being great and decided on her return for the 2020 season which would be important to improve her performances on tour and gain her self-confidence on court. Muguruza was happy and probably relieved that the former Wimbledon champ was a 'free agent' and wanted her services again.

Conchita Martinez saw the positive effects she had on Muguruza at Wimbledon and was glad to return to her team. She had known the Spaniard as a teenager and hopeful that their reunion will produce excellent results in the new 2020 season.
