Novak Djokovic speaks about his coach possibly becoming Davis Cup captain
Novak Djokovic spoke about his coach Goran Ivanisevic, the 2001 Wimbledon winner, possibly becoming Croatia's Davis Cup captain. "Of course it's nice to hear that," said Djokovic. "I am not sorry, it would be normal. To be honest it's the first time I heard about this opportunity but Goran has my support."
Djokovic and Ivanisevic started working together during this year's Wimbledon. Djokovic's is still coached by Marian Vajda whom he has been working with every year except in 2018, since 2006.
Serbia lost to Russia in the Davis Cup quarter-finals on Friday. Russia was beaten by Canada in the semis. Karen Khachanov said: "Obviously, it hurts. You know, like, yesterday, you know, we were actually winning this tiebreak. Today, third set tiebreak we lost. I mean, that's sport. And we gave our best. So, you know, we -- in this case we cannot, you know, complain that we didn't do something, you know. I could do maybe more in singles, but when you have deciding match you don't think about what was in the past. So Andrey really well done. He won all matches in singles, so it helped a lot. I mean, if he wouldn't win, we would be maybe not playing deciding matches. So it's all like this, that's when you have team matches, like together, you know. So yeah, it hurts of course that we lost today. But overall, I think we gave our best and that's what we could do this week."
