Thiem's father explains why Dominic can beat Roger Federer at ATP Finals

Dominic Thiem's father Wolfgang spoke about his son's chances at the upcoming ATP Finals in London. Wolfgang commented: "Dominic recovered well. The match against Raonic in Paris in Paris was not physically tiring, but a big mental challenge. It was very, very good for Dominic who won this match. Dimitrov may have gotten tired. But against Grigor you have to play at your best in order to win. After Paris, Dominic took a three or four-day break. I think now batteries are recharged. He is back to practice from Monday. He trained until Wednesday more about fitness and less about tennis."

Asked about the toughness of Thiem's group, Wolfgang added: "For me, it's the strongest group, without a doubt. Dominic leads head to head meetings over Roger Federer 2-0. It will be a very interesting match. I think he has his chances there. Novak Djokovic showed in Paris that he is the big favorite to win this tournament."

Asked if Thiem is the favorite against Matteo Berrettini as the Italian is playing in London for the first time, Wolfgang added: "For Dominic, when he was here for the first time, he was already hit by the entire history. If Berrettini is impressed by the environment, it can obviously help Dominic."
